Start with the statement period, balance, and due date
Three source facts provide a calm starting point before you inspect individual transactions.
A statement becomes easier to read when you first establish what period it covers, the ending balance it reports, and when payment is due.
Anchor the document
Keep those three facts beside the transaction list. They define the scope of every later comparison without replacing the original statement.
Confirm the opening and closing dates.
Record the exact statement balance and currency.
Separate the payment due date from the transaction dates.
